Dragon Boat Festival at China

The Dragon Boat Festival which is also known as the Duanwu Festival, is a traditional holiday in China. It has another local name Tuen Ng Festival. The Chinese people hav been celebrating this festival over 2000 years. It is celebrated to honor Qu Yuan (340-278 BC), an ancient Chinese patriotic poet, who drowned himself in a River. The date of Dragon Boat Festival is based on the lunar calendar, so the date varies from year to year on the Gregorian calendar.

The most graceful activity during the Dragon Boat Festival is Dragon boat racing. In this race wooden boats are used which are shaped and decorated as like as Chinese Dragon. The boat size varies from region to region. Usually it is near about 20–35 meters in length and it needs 30–60 people to paddle the boat.
